Golden Globes Glamour

 Hello my gorgeous glamazons,

To help me get through our bitterly cold winter hibernation in London, one of my favourite times of the year has finally  arrived – Awards season 😀

Last week the first show of the season, The Golden Globes sashayed onto our tv screens. For this weeks post I have highlighted the key evening wear looks we can expect to see in the shops this year and I also have picked my favourite outfit of the event.

One of the key trends of 2015 was the cut out dress. Either exposing the curve of the lower back, side body or sternum area, the look was seen from catwalks to the streets of the city. The revamp as seen on Jennifer Lawrence above is the bight colour block hue. This pillar box red dress looks amazing with the oblique revealing cutouts and the addition of her chain mail necklace looks modern and age appropriate.

Last year Calvin Klein caused a style sensation when he sent models down the catwalk wearing simple slip dresses that would not look out of place as underwear also.Rosie HW’s gold dress above skims her model frame perfectly and the nipped in waist creates a beautiful hourglass shape. Her understated hair and acessories really make this luxe look elegant and as though she could slip straight into bed in it when she gets home.

Over the last few years many designers have shown the voluminous dress style in their collections. What I really love about Olivia’s dress above is although it has the inclusion of horizontal stripes, the fitted strapless bodice and mid length skirt really showcase her petite frame and the ankle strap shoes accentuate her slim legs. I am a huge fan of the nautical style also so the red, white and blue stripes looks fresh and is a nice nod to her American roots.

Although Velvet brings back memories of Morticia from the Addams family, this updated 2016 dress seen on Lady Gaga really shows what you can do with this material and how you can make it current in today’s fashion world. The stark contrast of her platinum blonde curls with the dark hue of her dress is captivating and the padded out hips is a nice change to the usual shoulder pad of the 80s era. The peekaboo neck line and train really suit Gaga’s figure and shows power dressing really can go hand in hand with winning her coveted award at the end of the night.

After pouring over all of the looks from the awards last week I finally picked my favourite dress of the night.

I cannot pinpoint exactly what it is about this outfit I adore the most. I love the column shape of the dress and the colour gives Alicia an ethereal glow. Her up do hairstyle and “no makeup” makeup shows off her flawless complexion and the diamon drop earrings sparkle in the bright camera flashes. I think this is one of the only dresses I would actually wear myself too; it is completely my style and as her athletic shape is similar to mine I would definitely wear this on a night out in the summer or to a garden party.

I know that for many of us, we can only look at the cutting edge fashion shown on the red carpets with longing – the extravagant prices of these pieces are completely unobtainable for everyday people, but for me I use Award Season to give me fresh inspiration and ideas for my own wardrobe. There really is something to suit every shape and size too so get your notepads and iPads at the ready – lights, camera, action 😁

Until next week

Take care
