Good day my modelling moguls,
Even when I was a little girl, I always loved clothes and my box of dress up clothes was frequently raided. My poor little cousins and friends didn’t know what they had let themselves in for when they came to visit our house. haha. As I grew older, my dreams of being a fashion model engulfed me. I poured over editorials in magazines to learn the most flattering poses or to perfect my walk. Sadly, as puberty hit, I was not graced with amazonian long legs so the catwalk was not my calling but I am pleased in a way as I still get to indulge my love of fashion from behind the camera instead now.
Without further ado, I would like to introduce to you Jay Conroy. He is a male model and personal trainer best known for being in a Ford car Commercial but his star is definitely on the rise. I got the chance to sit down and have a chat with him for your reading pleasure.
Hi Jay, thanks for agreeing to do this interview, for the purpose of my followers can you tell me what you do for a living?
I do modelling, acting and also some personal training.
Unless we live under a rock, EVERYONE has likely seen you in the FORD commercial, how did that come about and do you get recognised a lot more now around London?
I did about 5 castings for that commercial and out of over 30,000 guys who got selected, I fortunately got chosen to be the Ford guy. As soon as it came out I got recognised on and off the tubes, in and around London Town and even my local area where I live. It’s a very surreal feeling getting recognised but more than anything when it came to it I get quite embarrassed and go very red so it’s quite funny actually.
Are you interested in fashion yourself? If so, how would you describe your personal style?
I’ve always loved fashion. I have two brothers Ellis and Dion Dion who both have incredible fashion sense. My older brother has always been able to put items and clothing together very well and my younger brother is like an English version of Justin Bieber. I’ve always loved a suit myself I think every man looks great in a suit. If it was up to me I would wear a suit every day for the rest of my life. I have nearly 30 suits but I like to exercise most mornings with shorts and t shirt and then jeans and casual for most of the day.
Out of the brands you have modelled to date, which would you say is your favourite?
I’ve been very fortunate to work with some of the best brands and designers in the world but I love modelling for Dolce and Gabbana. Their clothes and suits are amazing. I also model for David Beckham and he is an idol of mine so I would have to say him. He’s just a lovely, genuine funny guy and getting to work with him is a bit of a dream come true.
Do you prefer to dress smart or casual in your day to day life?
As I said, I train most mornings so I wear a tracksuit or shorts and a T-shirt but once I’m finished I usually wear jeans and a T-shirt. I don’t like to look like everyone else so I have some funky T-shirts. Long ones, plain ones – simple colours but different colours. I’m a man who likes his trainers too so as simple as I may dress I do like to wear nice trainers with jeans and a T-shirt. And at any chance I will always wear a suit, I always find an excuse to wear a suit.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Growing up I was very active. I’ve played every sport under the sun so I play a lot of football, golf, I swim and run and cycle most mornings for exercise, When I’m not doing that, I spend a lot of time with my family – my family are the most important thing in my life especially my mum and my Nan. Not saying I don’t love both of my brothers and my dad but they are my special ladies.
What kind of music do you listen to when you are working out?
I am a pretty chilled out guy most of the time so when I work out I like a lot of R&B. I am that annoying guy with headphones on in the corner on a bike singing out loud not realizing how loud I actually am.
How do you keep in shape all year round? Are there any workouts that you swear by to get you lean before a photoshoot?
I’ve always been a skinny guy but since doing a personal training course at 19 and being a professional footballer from 16, I’ve learnt the best training methods out there and it’s all about training best for your body, not what the magazines say. It’s all about trial and error and seeing what works for you so I always do cardio and body weight workouts. A lot of plyometric work, legwork and lots of core. I have quite a few exercises I do before big jobs but I keep them secret as I don’t want the guys getting my secret exercises that help me get that edge ha ha ha ha.
Are there any trends from the past, that you would love to see a comeback?
I would like to see more British suit designers come back, a lot more double-breasted jackets. I think there are so many talented designers out there and all they need is a break so I would love to see some new British designers pop up.
Now as a bit of fun, here is a quick fire round for you Jay.
Sweet or savoury?
I have a massive sweet tooth, I eat so much chocolate.
Hot or cold vacation?
I have very olive skin just like my father. I could sit in the sun for ever but I would go so brown, work would have to scrub my tan off! They have before and it’s very painful.
Bright ties or socks?
Matching socks. Love a fresh pair of socks.
Trainers or shoes?
Difficult as I love shoes with my suits but I do love a pair of good trainers so I’m going with shoes.
Running or cycling?
I’ve only just started getting into my cycling at the gym but I’ve grown up an athlete and run with everything so it’s going to be running.
Beards or clean shaven?
As much as I love a clean shaven look and how young it makes me look and my parents and grandma love me clean-shaven, I do think a bit of a beard makes you look like a cool kid.
Festivals or concerts?
Festivals are so much fun with all your friends but I’ve been to some amazing concerts and some of my best memories have been seeing artists perform at concerts so I’ll have to say concerts
Babies or animals?
I used to have a British bulldog until he passed away and I think I’m getting two more. My younger brother is 10 years younger than me and I babysat him with my older brother which showed my passion for babysitting. I love babies and as most of my friends now have started to have children, I babysit for them a lot so I think babies just edge it for me.
Magazines or the internet?
As cool as it is seeing myself on the front of the magazine it’s more efficient and my iPhone 6 Plus is massive so I use the Internet a lot more and download books and magazines so it’s the Internet
Bath or shower?
I’ve always wanted to bath with someone as strange as that sounds, sharing a bath with your partner but I never have and I love a good shower. I sing in the shower every morning I’m a massive shower guy.
And there you have it guys, that was the amazing Jay. Keep you eyes peeled for his new ad campaigns in the future and also you can follow him on Instagram at@jayconroy02
