Sun, sea and surf at Straddie

Good day my weekend break enthusiasts,

This past weekend the whole family packed our bags, copious amounts of liquid entertainment and off we went to Stradbroke island which was just magical. It really is a hidden gem of paradise and really brought out the inner surf beach chick in me instantly.

On Friday evening once work was finished for the weekend we boarded the car ferry to Straddie. Once we arrived we went to the family beach house and had a wonderful dinner altogether and then played a fun round of pictionary before bed.

On Saturday morning we were up bright and early, and after filling ourselves with scrambled eggs and fruit we made our way down to the beach with the jet ski in tow. We spent a super morning racing the  jet ski along the sand bars, having running races along the beach, making sand castles and playing with the kids in the chilly ocean. I loved nothing more than the feeling of salt in my hair and the sand on my skin whilst in my black bikini and flip flops.

That evening we went for a lovely pub dinner and finished off the evening with drinks cuddled up at the beach house – sheer perfection. I felt in my element in the laid back setting to pair my skinny dark denim, high waisted Mango jeans with my camel coloured Ralph Lauren top and animal print laced mocassins from Nine West. I kept my hair loose and simple makeup to go with the ambient setting.

On Sunday we again were up early, we checked out of our hotel and headed to a different beach this time where they had sand dunes and rock pools. The kids had the most fun sliding down the dunes on their boogie boards or finding crabs and other sealife in the naturally formed rock pools.

We then came back to the house had some lunch and got showered before we had to head back to the ferry port to get our vessel back to Brisbane. We watched the most amazing sunset from the top deck of the ship and arrived home to some yummy leftovers and our own beds for the evening.

Although the weekend went quickly, once we had returned I really felt as though we had had an lovely vacation and was so well rested. It truly is incredible to think in 45 minutes you can be in a place with the most untouched beaches, island cafes a plenty and is somewhere which can give you something that money cannot buy – quality time with your loved ones.

Straddie you were simply amazing, I cannot wait to come and visit your shores again soon.

Until next time, take care

Sumptuous sunnies

Hello my sunglass loving sirens,

With my upcoming holiday approaching, I have decided to dedicate this post to sunglasses. I am a huge fan of this sometimes unappreciated little fashion accessory and I am guilty of having a different pair for every occasion. Below I have outlined my favourite styles and how you can wear them with your spring wardrobe.

I remember the feeling like it was yesterday when I proudly went along to Hyde Park to watch my brother compete in the prestigious Olympic triathlon a few years ago. The Suns beautiful ray’s were beaming down on us all day so these Burberry frames were ideal. I teamed them with a slim fit white shirt, skinny jeans and my fab chocolate brown Nine West loafers.

When I was in Spain one New Year and even over Christmas last year although the weather was a little cool, we still experienced glorious sunshine and blue skies most days. I lived in my tortoise shell and orange Clubmasters by Rayban. The design and colouring are actually limited edition which just adds a sense of originality to any outfit and it’s nice to know you won’t see many people wearing them on your next break either. Below I wore them with my Italian designed fitted jacket and jumper dress and also my grey Armani overcoat over tailored chinos and a Ralph Lauren jumper. They are truly versatile.

Even when I am training or competing in my triathlons or running events,  I love my Oakley pair which prevent glare (ideal if the sun is reflecting off cars or the road) and they have breathable panels down the side so I can avoid the dreaded steamed up look (Quelle horreur)

A few years ago at a car boot sale I nabbed this amazing vintage red aviator pair which come out of my collection every summer. They really brighten any outfit and complemented this floral day dress perfectly.

I love the classic Rayban wayfarer shape that has graced the faces of celebrities and on the runway for decades. They are my go to style for when I am on the beach or relaxing on holiday. Mine have lasted years and the black frames match every bikini or beach dress.

There seriously are so many shapes and sizes of sunglasses on the market and I would recommend that it is always better to invest in a good quality pair from a recommended stockist rather than from a high street store as they are fully UV protected and also last a lifetime (if you are not one of those people who lose sunglasses like odd socks in the washing machine)

Also what I love about this accessory in comparison to say handbags or shoes, they are a fairly inexpensive way to show your sense of style and be unique. How often in life can you don a pair of bug eyed glasses like my retro Armani pair below and feel like a child again playing dress up. Go wild on colour combos and embellishment, I promise the smile will not leave your face all summer 😀

Have a great few weeks my lovely readers, I am off from next week on a wonderful, eagerly anticipated vacation. Now where did I put my wayfarers. Haha.

Take care,

Festival Fever

Good evening my music mavericks,

As those close to me know, I am a huge music fan. My ITunes collection displays an eclectic variety of so many different genres from deep house, to rap, to R&B. Music has the power to transport me to my happy place whatever I am doing and can really push me to my limits when I’m out running or on my bike.

I am lucky enough to have already been to some amazing concerts and festivals this year with more planned in the next few months. A few week ago I attended Wireless festival with Drake headlining. The weather was blissfully bright and  warm so I decided on the below outfit. My shorts are customised Levi’s with a sequin detail on the back pocket by myself, belt by Ted Baker, my striped Breton top is from a local shop, my sunglasses are Ray ban and my shoes are diamanté adorned Converse lovingly made by one of my best friends.

In 2010 I went to see Calvin Harris at the O2. As it was New Year we decided to dress up for the occasion, I wore the below outfit. The dress is a vintage designer one and my shoes were from Nine West.

Whilst I was working overseas in South Africa where I have family luckily, my cousins and I went to see Swedish House Mafia. The day was perfect and whilst sat in a dusty field I wore the below. My sunglasses are by Rayban, my vest by Mango and shorts are from French connection.

I also went to the Holi one festival whilst there, which was an unforgettable experience. Every hour on the hour thousands of people would throw coloured powder into the air whilst dancing to deep house music. As the colours were so vibrant everyone wore white clothing which ended up looking simply spectacular. This was me after a few rounds of the powder throwing with the beautiful Table Mountain as our backdrop😊

Every year I attend SW4 festival in Clapham Common which is always so much fun and has me dancing all day and night to the killer anthems. Whether it is raining (where my fail safe clothing will be Hunter wellies and my Mac) or stunningly sunny (where I usually wear my trusty sunglasses and funky shorts) it is my favourite London festival and I cannot wait to attend it this year again in August.

My main advice for musical events is just always have fun and do not take yourself too seriously – music can bring up so many different emotions in every individual but for me as long as I am surrounded by my amazing friends and I feel cool and collected in my outfit of choice then I know I will have an awesome day. Just look at the smiles on these lovely faces from the Ed Sheeran concert this past weekend – you cannot fake that elation 😀

Until next week, take care

Summer loving.

Good afternoon my high street heroes and heroines,

Firstly, sincerest apologies for my late posting of last weeks blog, I have just got back from a lovely vacation so I am suitably well rested and energised whilst writing this entry.

As my last few posts have been geared towards high end brands, I thought for this weeks entry I would fill you in on my favourite high street stores and online sites which I swear by for all my fashion needs for those highly anticipated summer holiday outfits 😊

As the weather was amazing in stunning Spain, my case consisted of vest tops in every colour mainly from H&M or Uniqlo as they really last well when faced with the elements (no one likes an out of shape top after only one day at the beach!)

I love my jean shorts from Espirit and Miss Sixty – they are a low slung boyfriend fit which look awesome when paired with my array of bikini’s. The below shorts are one of my all time favourites from French Connection – the colours are so bright and fun, and look even better with a golden tan.

For the evenings, I usually will wear either easy throw on dresses I have managed to find in fabulous Sunday markets on my trips through Europe or I love Mango/ Massimo Dutti who have some amazing shift dresses which suit my frame perfectly and can be dressed up or down dependent on your evening’s antics 😀

For suitable footwear, on the sandal side, I love the embellished styles seen at Guess and Nine West and for wedges – my go to shoe on holiday for chic drinks out on the sea front (I am sure most women can recount a treacherous stiletto plus cobble stone story – absolute no-no) I love my trusty black leather ones from River Island and my tan ones from Dune.

Bikinis are fab this season in H&M, Roxy and Quicksilver – the floral and fluoro trends look incredible on swimwear – especially with your retro coloured lense Ray Bans wayfarers – so beach chic 😀

For that holiday season it really is about looking laid back, individual and above all not too try hard! Every outfit looks better with that glowing complexion, relaxed wavy hair and a wonderful umbrella clad cocktail in hand 😊

Bring on Summer 2015 😁

Until next week, take care Keya x
